Meet Isa
Hi, I’m Isa (pronounced Iz-a, not like the cash Isa). I’m a Registered Nutritionist (RNutr), certified Intuitive eating counsellor and qualified Nutritional Therapist (BANT, CNHC) specialising in disordered eating, and eating disorders. I am passionate about helping clients rediscover confidence and trust in nourishing their bodies, so they can free up space for what really matters.
Why am I passionate about this work?
My relationship with food and my body hasn’t always been an easy one. Much of my teens were spent consumed by thoughts about calories, what I should and shouldn’t eat and the underlying belief that I would be worth more if I was smaller. It was all consuming and exhausting.
However, I soon realised that in attempting to shrink myself, I was shrinking my whole world. For a time, I lost friendships, memories, experiences, opportunities and the ability to fully part take in life. I am not telling you this for sympathy, I am telling you this because I get it. I understand. I also know through personal experience that it’s totally possible to make amends with food and practice a “healthy” and balanced relationship with food and your body.
Work with me?
Seeking out professional support requires a great deal of strength and bravery. I always want to be a human being before a nutritionist, and so I can promise you integrity, kindness and trust. In clinic, I fuse evidence-based nutrition science with counselling skills, intuitive eating and clinical wisdom, to offer you personalised, holistic and compassionate care.
In addition to client work, I enjoy motivational speaking and running workshops for schools and workplaces. I consult for brands, advising on nutrition, health claims and undertaking nutritional analysis and recipe development. Most recently, I have worked with Tesco’s, Morrisons and Birdseye. I have also written for a range of blogs and publications.
Education and Training
As a Registered Nutritionist (RNutr), I am registered with the Association for Nutrition (AFN), which means I have a reputable qualification from a university – I didn’t just do an online course. AFN also holds me to an ethical code and highest standard of evidence-based practice, which means you’ll be in safe and capable hands.
I did my undergraduate degree at The University of Edinburgh where I based much of my research on Eating Disorders. Specifically, I explored sociocultural factors perpetuating disordered eating in females, including changing ideals of female beauty and ubiquitous diet culture. I wrote my thesis on the rise of The Eat Clean movement, concluding that “clean eating” may operate as a mask for Eating Disorders and food restriction.
Following this, I moved back to London and started at The College of Naturopathic Medicine where I completed my three-year nutritional therapy qualification obtaining a distinction. In addition, I began my Masters (MSc) in Eating Disorders and Clinical Nutrition at University College London (UCL) where I achieved a distinction. This encompassed nutrition science, psychology, public health and behavioural change, offering me a range of skills and techniques that I currently apply to my practice.
I have undertaken further training in:
Nutritional counselling for Eating Disorders
The Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at the University of Oxford’s Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E).
Body image healing.
Health at Every Size with the Association for size diversity and health
Nutritional Psychiatry.
I am also a certified Intuitive Eating counsellor
Dialectical behavioural therapy skills
Acceptance commitment therapy (ACT) and Radically Open Dialectical behavioural therapy (RO-DBT).
Life outside of nutrition
Maintaining a good work-life balance is something I find hard, but have learnt to take seriously. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with friends and family. Recently, I have taken up a keen interest in gardening and my Bonsai tree called Horatio.
I also love walking in the park with our dog Maisie or venturing to independent coffee shops around London. I enjoy baking, attending art exhibitions or the theatre, travelling, trying out new restaurants and a good ol’ boogey on the dance floor.
