Clinical Supervision
Dear friends and colleagues,
How do I know if you’re the right fit for me?
Finding a supervisor can be a bit like finding a comfortable pair of shoes. We can’t be 100% sure until we’ve tried them on and tested them out.
First and foremost, I always recommend working with someone that you admire. If you’d like to consider working together, I don’t require any upfront fee for a fixed amount of sessions so we can go session by session whilst you decide if it feels helpful for you.
How often would we meet?
Depending on where you are, I would suggest supervision sessions at least monthly.
Whilst it’s important to take some time to figure out the right supervisor for you, once you do, having some continuity can be helpful to cultivate insight and evaluate personal growth.
I am so grateful that you’re here. I’ve spent the past 3 years undertaking regular supervision with incredible supervisors from all over the world and in a range of specialisms. It’s undoubtedly been one of the most invaluable experiences in growing in confidence and clinical skills, as well as ensuring the best support for my clients.
In my own journey of starting out, I had a lot of imposter syndrome and was most frequently met with the sense that unless I had “X” qualification or “Y” number of years of experience, I wouldn’t make it. This was very disheartening at times and I feel that it is especially true for the nutritionists out there. I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Reaching out to supervisors who I admired and believed in me was a game changer.
Of course, our training, professional experience and staying within our scope of practice is crucially important, but at the same, we have to start somewhere and there is room for everyone. I truly believe we need more compassionate, forward thinking and inspired nutritional professionals working in the space of eating disorders and disordered eating and I would love to help you to feel welcome and included here.
So what does 121 clinical supervision look like:
What I have loved most about my own experience of clinical supervision is that it’s personalised and completely up to you. This is what I hope to offer too, but to give you a bit more of a break down it may look like:
Bringing a client case that you would like some additional guidance with
Asking about specific topics you are feeling unsure on
Bringing a clinical matter pertaining to transference or counter-transference
Questions related to managing private practice including working with multi-disciplinary teams
Developing more counselling skills that are no often left out of our training
Sitting with some of the discomfort and challenges in working as a nutrition professional
Just like in my work with clients, I would like for you to know that our supervision sessions will be a confidential and judgement free space where you feel able to show up authentically. I will put my hands up and say that I am not perfect and there are certainly instances where I’ve got it wrong. Having a brave supervision space has allowed me to learn and grow from these and I’d like to be able to offer that too.
