Intuitive Eating

What is Intuitive Eating?

Intuitive Eating is the dynamic interplay of emotion, instinct, and thought that invites us to cultivate non-judgmental curiosity around our thoughts, body sensations, emotions, experiences, and values to help break free from diet dogma, foster body respect and live more authentically in alignment to our values.

It is an evidence-based self-care eating framework backed up by over 160 studies and was originally co-developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch.

Why Intuitive Eating?

Research shows that dieting for the purpose of intentional weight loss is conversely a major predictor for weight gain, with 90-95% of dieters regaining back the weight within 5 years. Dieting messes with our physiology and psychology impacting everything from our metabolism and appetite hormones to our thoughts about food and our bodies.

ā€œDieting leaves us fighting against our own biology!ā€

We are also most likely to blame ourselves and implicate emotions like guilt, shame, hopelessness, and low self-esteem in our eating and everyday self-care practices.

If this feels uncomfortable to read, please know that you are not alone. For pretty much our whole lives weā€™ve been told that controlling our weight is a matter of willpower and that ā€œhealthā€ is a state to be achieved rather than defined in our own terms.
